I know, I know, dunks aren’t everything. And we have a lot more coming out from the 2013 Southeast Summer Showcase. It’s just hard to ignore the viral reaction from Carlee Clemons’ dunk-heard-round-the-world, which not only was picked up by MaxPreps, Bleacher Report and Yahoo! Sports, but made it all the way to #2 on ESPN’s Top 10. Carlee has since gotten interest from several new colleges and will no doubt see quite a bit more going into July.

Of course, Basketball Elite has been featured in national media before, including CBS Sports and Dime magazine, but the appearance on ESPN is a first.

Today’s post is about the awards from the event, including Clemons (Dunk Champion), and Kedrick Flomo (G, 6’2, ’14) of North Forsyth HS who walked away with MVP honors, and Gerald Vaughn Jr (G, 5’8, ’14) who took home the Coaches Award.

There were several players with excellent showings that got picked up by several of the scouts, including Justice Cuthbertson, Stavian Allen, Gary Clark, Javis Howard, Juwan Evans and Ronshad Shabazz. We will continue to push out full reports.

More coming soon.

M-squared brings us some of the best moments – and there were some good ones – from the 2013 Basketball Elite Southeast Summer Showcase. A lot of talent this year – in the the screenshot above for this video alone, you can see Carlee Clemons, Gabe Devoe, Austin Hatfield, Gary Clark, Javis Howard and even Donte Falls who was helping out at the event.

As always, we will have a lot more coming out of the third annual Basketball Elite Southeast Summer Showcase, but for now let’s talk about Carlee Clemons, a 6’1 guard from the class of 2014 who shut down the dunk contest when he jumped over 6’7″ Cary Clark and 6’8″ Javis Howard.

Mookie Blalock car accident

Former NBA player Daron ‘Mookie’ Blalock is in critical condition today following a car accident late Friday. Blalock’s SUV reportedly crossed the center line and collided with a head-on with a van. One passenger in the van, 43-year-old Monica Murphy, was fatally injured and her husband suffered a broken ankle.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Blalock was initially placed on life support, but his condition has improved enough that it was no longer required as of Friday morning and that his current condition is ‘guarded’.
