Forward Ater Majok leaves UConn

Ater Majok, forward for the Connecticut Huskies, was withdrawn from the school. He played in only 26 games for the team. No reason was provided by the university during their announcement, made on Wednesday.

Majok, a 6’11” PF and a former refugee from Sudan, came to UConn from Australia. His family had relocated to Austrailia after spending years in an Egyptian refugee camp. This season he arrived with much fanfare, but only averaged 2.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg during his freshman season with the Huskies.

He enrolled at the university in 2008, but questions about his academic qualifications at UConn and elsewhere left him ineligible to play before last fall.

Majok entered his name into the 2009 NBA draft, but later withdrew.
