Staff Reports

We’ve scouted William Walker a couple of times in the recent past (see the reports here and here), and we wanted to show more of the cerebral point guard who has an easy knack for scoring. We expect Williams to slowly become more known as people begin to realize how effective he can be on the court.

When we first caught up with Chris Walker almost a year ago, he wasn’t quite getting the recognition he should have been – but that soon changed. Chris not only became well known on the summer circuit, he was invited to several major events including the NBPA Top 100 and Adidas Nations. Chris continues to work on his game – and get a ton of D1 offers – and here’s Chris’s current favorite highlight video that showcases his talents on the court:

JaQuel Richmond (PG, 6’1″, 2014) worked his way into the recruiting lexicon this summer as he started to get noticed – and recruited – by some pretty big name schools. JaQuel plays alongside some very talented AAU teammates on the CP3 All-Stars, and he proved he is an elite guard at the CP3 elite skills camp this year. JaQuel’s calling card is his quickness and ability to get to the bucket, and he has a knack of creating a mid range shot for himself seemingly at will.

We caught up with JaQuel on his latest offers, what he’s working on right now and few other things in today’s edition of 7 questions.

1. The first question is always about your current college options. Which schools have offered, and which schools are you currently considering/talking to?

Charlotte (UNCC), Virginia, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest and Georgetown have offered me so far.

2. Over the summer you got the opportunity to attend some of the biggest camps and events, such as the Chris Paul elite guard camp. What are your thoughts on how your summer went, from the events to playing against top competition?

I honestly would have to say my summer went good, I played against top guards that were in my class at the Peach Jam and in Florida Showcase/Nationals. Playing against those top guards and top players shows others that you can handle that type of pressure during the game and at crunch time, but knowing myself I love to be on the stage and all eyes are on you.

3. What do you think are the strongest parts of your game right now?

The strongest parts of my game right now [are] getting to the basket at any time and attacking that mid-range at all times.

4. What parts of your game are you currently working on?

I am constantly working on my 3 ball because most coaches know that I can get to the cup so they want to see if I can also shoot that 3 ball. So most of my workout I’m constantly putting up shots, at least 600 shots.

5. Do you have a player (at any level, college or pro) that you admire?

I would have to say I admire Kyrie Irvin because we both have that killer instict during the entire game and we can get to the basket with no problem.

6. Do you have any visits planned, or have you already taken any?

October 8th I’m going to Virginia Tech.
October 14th I’m going to Duke Midnight Madness.

7. If you could tell people one thing about you that you wish they knew, what would it be?

That I would never be cocky and that I’m always humble.

Marcus Bryan (SF/PF, 6’7″, 2013) is a name that should be more known in recruiting circles, especially after he showed at the CP3 elite guard camp that he definitely looks to have the ability to make the move to the small forward position in college. We caught up with Marcus at the camp to get his thoughts on his recruitment and his impression of his first ever CP3 event.

Isaiah Hicks Garner Road Bulldogs

You might not have heard much about Isaiah Hicks, but he intends to change that. Hicks is 6’8″ and fluid, a dunker who explodes to the rim and is the kind of athlete that gets fans anticipating something on a breakaway; if Hicks is trailing on the break, you know something exciting could, and probably will, happen. Isaiah has made no secret that right now he’s primarily focused on UNC, one of the three major college programs within minutes of where he plays his high school and AAU basketball.

Isaiah is extremely effective in transition, which is why he’s so dangerous on the break. His fluid ability to get up and down the court and finish at the rim makes him an easy target for a point guard. See Isaiah’s ability for yourself in today’s exclusive highlight video:

We caught up with Hicks this past week for our seven question interview, but we are also providing some exclusive video and photos of Hicks, a player who plays in the heart of ACC country and is very much of interest to area schools.

1. You’ve stated in the past that UNC was your early favorite. Which other schools are you currently considering?

None.

2. What position do you see yourself playing at the college level?

At the 3.

3. What do you think are the strongest parts of your game right now?

Dunking. (See the video.)

4. What areas of your game are you currently working on?

My shooting and ball handles.

5. Do you have a player (at any level, college or pro) that you admire?

Kevin Durant.

6. Do you have any visits planned, or have you already taken any?

I went to [NC State] last Friday but other then that, I don’t expect any visits soon.

7. If you could tell people one thing about you that you wish they to knew, what would it be?

I will be number 1 in the nation.

Tyler Lewis has become known for scoring, especially after he broke Chris Paul’s scoring record in this year’s Frank Spencer Holiday Classic. We caught up with Tyler, who is bound for NC State to play for the Wolfpack, and got his thoughts for this edition of 7 Questions.

1. What are some the reasons you decided on NC State?

I decided to play basketball at NCSU because I absolutely feel like it is the best program where my game will excel. I have fallen in love with the environment and the college. It also has a great basketball tradition and hopefully I will be able to get it back where it once was.

2. You have established a reputation as a scorer as well as a passer who has a flair for stylish passes. What’s your approach to a game, do you actively look for your own shot or do you consider yourself a distributor first?

As a PG you always have to look to distribute the basketball first and then look to score. I love making the highlight passes but I also know when to make the easy and simple pass. Even though I am usually a pass first point guard, I have to do what’s best for my team to excel. For example, in high school I average 27 ppg and 7 apg but I knew I had to score for my team to win. In AAU ball I am surrounded with much better athletes and I usually excel in the open court with my passing abilities.

3. Do you have a player (at any level) that you admire?

I absolutly love Chris Paul and Kemba Walker. I admire Chris Paul and Kemba Walker because they are such good leaders on and off the court. Kemba Walker is a winner. You can tell he hates losing becuase every time he is on the court he plays like it’s his last game. Chris and Kemba have the abilities to not only create shots for themselves but also create shots for others. Since I basically grew up in the same hometown as CP3 I look up to him in many ways. I had the ability to play with Chris in a pro-am league in Winston-Salem and had the ability to go to his backcourt camp 2 years ago and going again this summer. At our Christmas tournament this year I broke chris paul’s scoring record with 104 points in 3 games. It was a big honor for me because I have broken a record set my the best pg in the NBA. Also, I look up to players like Steve Nash because he as an unbelievable basketball IQ and even though he is not the fastest he is the smartest player in the game.

4. What part of your game are you currently working on?

I am currently working on gettting bigger. I am trying to get up to 170 before the high school season. Right now i am currently 162. I am also trying to get quicker laterly so I have the ability to stay in front of quicker guards and be a lock down defender.

5. What part of your game do you feel is the strongest right now?

I feel like my basketball IQ and my passing ability is the strongest point of my game right now. Also, my transition game is very good because I love to get the ball out and going. I love to play fast but at the same time make smart decisions with the basketball.

6. With your commitment decided, how does the Spring and Summer look for you? Will you continue to play the same circuit/games as you have in past years, or take a different approach?

Being committed to the Pack, I will still play on the circuit for Team Loaded again this summer. I want take a different approach to the summer because I hate losing and I want to win every game and have the best team in the country. Also, with the new coach at state I will try to impress him so I will try to show out this summer.

7. If you could tell people one thing about you that you wish they knew, what would it be?

I am a kid who loves the game of basketball and strives to be the best player I can be. I am very humble and I come from the best family. I have the best supporters and fan anybody could ask for. I love Wolfpack nation with a passion. I am a strong believer in CHRIST. If it was not for him, none of this would be happening for me, I am very thankful. God bless.

Justin Anderson, who we’ve profiled before on Basketball Elite, has committed to Gary Williams and the Maryland Terrapins. We’ll be watching Justin more over the summer and getting more insight into the 2012 prospect. Coming out of one of the top areas in the nation for prep talent, Justin hails from the Baltimore/D.C. area.

As we stated before when profiling Justin, he’s a gifted athlete and he should fit in well with the Terps’ style of play.

And because today’s recruiting environment is such that every player seems like they have a mixtape, here’s the obligatory video of Justin dunking on everyone in his path, in slow motion, over and over to the east coast beats of Anno Domini. But, hey, Justin is a solid player and he should be a great get for the ACC.
